Swati Natekar, one of India's most acclaimed singers, is to make her debut performance in Manchester at the city's legendary music venue Band on the Wall.

Swati, whose Indian classical music is flecked with soul, RnB and jazz, will perform songs from her acclaimed latest album, Destiny Chakra, as well as some of her previous hits at a concert on 29 September at the venue in the city's Northern Quarter.

Swati is perhaps best known for singing on the UK chart hit 'American Dream' by Jakatta, which was nominated for a World Dancestar Award.

The singer, born in Jabalpur, moved to London in the nineties and has worked with hundreds of renowned artists including Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain, music producer Biddu, Kiki Dee and Nitin Sawhney.

Mike Chadwick, music programmer at Band on the Wall said: "Swati is an international star and to hear her debut performance in Manchester is an opportunity not to be missed."

Band on the Wall reopens on 25 September after a major four year renovation. New facilities including a state-of-the-art sound system and concert grand piano, audio-visual and sound studios and a new multi-use social space, The Picturehouse.
