On the run...

It's that time of year again when the last 6 months planning (and panicking) is finally put to the test... No, I'm not talking about the imminent Budget announcement, but Sunday's London Marathon!

Thousands of motivated runners will line up nervously at the starting line - many of them just hoping to make it to the finishing line - and others trying to beat records and PBs from previous runs.

It's a fantastic event for spectators too - watching lots of crazy people that don't think it's enough of a challenge to endure a solid 26 miles of running, but decide to don fancy dress too! And with this week's warm weather and the rumour that summer really is on its way, suffering heavy furry clothing over a 26 mile slog really has to be my worst nightmare.

But these extraordinary runners are raising much-needed cash for worthwhile causes and they keep coming back year after year - so good luck to them all!

A marathon is a bit too much of a challenge for me though - instead I'm going along to CAFOD Salford's Walk in the Park in Manchester's Heaton Park. That's where I'll be taking on a 5k run or even just strolling 2k. And this too is all for a good cause - raising funds to help people in developing countries around the world.

And the best bit? I get back just in time to watch the marathon highlights on the telly! Perfect.
