With the Olympics officially starting today I thought I would tell you of my Olympics-like experience.
On 24-27 July I played in the 2008 Eurogames in Barcelona. What are they I hear you ask! Well the Eurogames is a competition full of gay athletes who participate in 28 different sport disciplines. This year 5,300 people took part, including my team Village Manchester Football Club.
Like the Olympics there was an opening ceremony and a closing ceremony and like the Olympics both ceremonies were very...random I think the word is!
The football competition took place over 25-26 July in the sweltering Spanish sun. We faced teams from Rome, Bilbao, and Paris to name but a few and did really well (we didn't win).
It was a really good event which promoted diversity around Europe and also around the world and it was good to see so many people from so many different places come together to celebrate.
For the next couple of weeks though the Olympics will take over our TV screen - anyone fancy playing a game of softball? Archery? Thought not?. It's a pity they do not have a tree felling event - I'd definitely get the gold medal!
